According to legend, Buddha’s physician Jivaka Komarpaj was the founder of the system now called Thai Yoga Massage, though it has probably changed considerably since his time.

Energy from the breath (Lom) travels through the body along lines (Sen). While this sounds like the Chinese system of Meridians, it is in fact much closer to Prana of Yoga. Many of the stretches used in the sessions are similar to those used in Yoga, and the method of opening the lines consists of a series of presses by the practitioner using various parts of their body depending on the intensity needed. The treatment is characterized by a rocking motion which uses the body weight to regulate the direction and pressure of each press.

Thai Yoga Massage is the most effective therapeutic massage.

As the massage is performed mostly on the floor it is recommended to wear comfortable loose clothes such as a tracksuit or loose trousers and a tee shirt.

This is a massage of the feet and lower legs incorporating methods from reflexology, Thai Yoga Massage and shiatsu. The massage is applied by pressing with fingers thumbs and knuckles, rubbing and bending the feet to stretch them and relax them. Finer pressure is sometimes applied using a specially designed wooden tool.

This is great for tired feet, especially if you have been standing all day or exercising hard.

Foot massage is considered to be particularly effective in opening the energy channels of the body and so its benefits extend to the whole body, not just the area being treated.

There are many benefits from foot massage, including:

  • stress relief

  • improved sleep

  • improves your mood

  • improved imune response

  • improved concentration

  • improved circulation in the feet and lower legs

Massage during pregnancy is a very delicate issue. Many people say that it should be avoided, but this is not totally true. Special skills are required dealing with a pregnant woman, but massage is still possible and extremely beneficial.

First, the most important thing is that you should be comfortable. It is not possible to lie on your stomach, and often, especially in the later stages, lying on your back is also difficult. Therefore all Thai Yoga Massage techniques for pregnant women are done lying on your side. Second, the pressure used should be minimal, not just on areas near the abdomen, but everywhere. This is because the pressing releases toxins from the muscles. In a non pregnant person this is what you want. Releasing the toxins flushes them from the system. However, this process involves the toxins entering the blood stream initially and this has to be avoided in pregnancy.

Finally stretches have to be modified to suit, especially as the baby becomes bigger Elena trained initially as a midwife and has a lot of experience working with pregnant women.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and non-invasive form of alternative therapy that focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Developed by osteopath Dr. John Upledger in the 1970s, this therapeutic approach aims to enhance the body's natural healing processes by addressing imbalances and restrictions in the craniosacral rhythm.

Practitioners use subtle, hands-on techniques to evaluate and release tension within the craniosacral system, promoting better flow and balance. The therapy is based on the concept that the craniosacral system's rhythm reflects the overall health of the central nervous system and can be influenced to alleviate various physical and emotional issues.

During a session, clients typically lie fully clothed on a treatment table, and the therapist uses light touch to detect and manipulate the craniosacral rhythm. This may involve gentle holds, subtle movements, or focused attention to specific areas. Many people find craniosacral therapy to be a deeply relaxing experience.
